College Prepster Book Club + New Selection

How did revisiting (or beginning) the Harry Potter series go for you?  I am honestly so sad that the series is over.  I can’t wait until Jacob (my next door neighbor whom I’ve babysat since he was born) gets a smidge older so I can introduce him to the books.  I have only watched the first five movies… so I have three more to go!  I definitely prefer the books (hello, the details are incredible!), but the movies are pretty darn good!
January’s selection is good.
Ann Brashares has been one of my favorite authors.  I have loved the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series for a long, long time.  Her books are scattered around my house, my room, and my bookshelves.  I haven’t read the full series in a while, but sometimes I’ll pull an installation off the shelf and read a chapter or two!
I was so happy to hear that Ann Brashares wrote another novel.  I was on the wait list for it all summer long… apparently, it was quite popular!!!  I removed myself from the wait list when I returned to DC, so I was extremely happy to see that The Last Summer (of You & Me) was available in my favorite library over break.
It was very different than the Traveling Pants series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.  I definitely even teared up throughout.  I think it’s a book that a lot of us can relate to, which is why I believe I enjoyed it so much.  Alice has just graduated college and is about to go to law school… The whole novel is an interesting look at sisterhood, love, friendship, and growing up.

I just borrowed this from my mom this weekend!! I hadn't heard of it, but I am so excited to start reading it! Another one that she lent me was The Last Promise by Richard Paul Evans. I'm starting it next – have you heard of it?! I'm excited to start both of them!

I read this a few years ago and have lent it out more times than I can remember since! It is beyond words! I am so glad you've chosen this, I hope so many more girls pick it up now 🙂

P.S. You should try her other adult novel My Name is Memory. It ends on a cliff hanger, and the rest of the trilogy is stuck in publishing but will be released if enough interest is generated. It was worth the read even with the cliff hanger ending.

I read this a summer ago and truly enjoyed it. Not as good as Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, basically because I thought the first half of the book was sooooo slow, but besides that it was a good read. So glad you picked it for the January book club selection!

What did you think of The Mill River Recluse?
I just finished up the LAST Harry Potter book.  Ugh.  I can’t thank you guys enough for encouraging me to give the series another shot.  Of course, the last book was definitely my favorite… but I really loved them all.
I grew incredibly close to each character.  Don’t you feel like you can find something relatable from every single one of them?
So December’s book club book is going to be Harry Potter themed.  If you haven’t read the series at all, I totally recommend that you do.  (The first book is kind of childish, but it’s an easy read to get through and then they get SO SO SO good.)  If you haven’t read the series in a while, pick up your favorite installment and read it over break!
I already plan on watching the movies over break… I haven’t seen the last four!  Ahhhhhh!
xoxo
PS I definitely cried (in public) multiple times when reading the last book.  Amazing.

Congrats on getting through them all! Not only did I love the stories but they were so special to me because I had to wait every year for the new one to come out, and then I would stay up all morning reading it at super speed. I definitely think these novels will stand the test of time and I can't wait for future generations to discover the magic. Have fun with the movies, they don't disappoint, even if they could never be as detailed as the books 🙂

I loved growing up with Harry Potter, definitely the best book series out there. I felt like i could relate to most of the characters and i also cried throughout certain parts! HP <3 for life! The moves are pretty good although the books will always be better!

I was also a late-comer to HP. I read all of them in a 6 week span last year…very impressive as it was during finals! I fell in love with them. I cried like a freaking baby during Deathly Hallows. There were a few times when I had to stop reading because I couldn't see, the tears were coming so fast. It seems like I'm always re-reading one of them. Love them.

I just watched all of the movies over break so far! Haha. I'm planning on reading all of the books this coming academic quarter.

I cried reading all the books – it's part of the HP experience! I remember running to the bookstore to buy the next one, they are all so good! I now go back and reread them all (I read each as they came out) from time to time and still cry! They're just so amazing.

What did you guys think of Wildflower Hill???  I loved it.  I kinda want to re-read it.  Unfortunately, I have the final Harry Potter book, an unfinished book, five group projects, and finals looming over my head….
Next up:
The Mill River Recluse by Darcie Chan
Full disclosure: This reads just like a Lifetime Movie… I think that’s why I liked it 😉
While we’re hectically scrambling to finish last minute group projects and cramming to remember a few more definitions before an exam… this is the perfect book to give us a little ease of mind and relaxation.
In fact, I read every single morning and almost every single night to clear my mind.  I wake up and want to start rushing into my to-do list, but that always ends up stressing me out!  Sitting down to a small breakfast (and coffee, obviously), I read about 30 or 40 pages of a book.  Very calming.
And the same for trying to fall asleep.  If I’m on the computer (and let’s face it, I am always working on the computer), I need to give my eyes a break so I can fall asleep better.  Reading is perfect.

Gosh y'all I picked this up tonight and just finished it, I couldn't out it down. I bawled for the majority of the ending though, as it really speaks to me and my family situation right now.

Its beautiful and wonderful. I do howvere HATE the title! I mean technically it identifies the main character- the recluse of Mill River. But the story is SO much more than that!!! Frankly I picked it up because I was bored, it was $0.99 and I remembered reading the title in this blog post. The title would have never suckered me in, but the story definiently did. Read and it will remind you how lucky you are!!!

Hi Carly, this is pretty random, but A.S. Byatt's book will make the next great book for the reading club, especially "The Children's Books"

Did you read last month’s selection, The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth?  I still can’t get over how much I loved it!!  What did you think?
This month, I chose a light read.  It’s fun and has all the elements of a fun book: ballet, love, and different time periods.
Wildflower Hill by Kimberley Freeman
I read it super quickly, but I wish I had taken my time more.  I didn’t want the story to end!!!
Happy Reading!

What did you guys think of Divergent???  I’ve been telling everyone to read it!  First of all, I love Chicago.  Wasn’t it weird how they were mentioning the buildings?  I loved that they played capture the flag on Navy Pier.
I am a really big fan of the Hunger Game series, but I thought that Divergent definitely had a better love story.  I LOVE FOUR.  Just sayin’.  The whole premise of Divergent kind of creeped me out, because I could totally see that happening.  The division of the factions was brilliant.  Can’t wait for the sequel.

Next book:
The Red Tent by Anita Diamont
I found a stack of books that I had been meaning to read, but forgot.  The Red Tent was one of them…. AMAZING!!!!
Hope y’all love it as much as I did!!!

I've already read this one! It's such an interesting topic, although I'll admit it was super awkward freshman year when my religion teacher started talking about it in front of the whole class, haha!

I LOVE The Red Tent. My book club read it, became obsessed with it, so I made my mom and her friends read it too. Definitely a book then for all ages!

Seriously? I hated that book. Couldn't even finish it, I was disgusted with the misappropriation of historical experience and the role of women. -10points

What did you think of Names My Sisters Call Me?
I thought that the book was a simple reminder that while there insecurities and jealousies in a lot of families, love should trump them!!!  Sporty Sister and I are so different, it’s not even funny.  We are polar opposites, but it’s interesting.  She’s good at X and I’m good at Y.  Sometimes I wish that I were good at X like her, but I know she wishes she were good at Y like me.  We’ve already determined we would be able to work well together because she likes to do the things I don’t, and I like to do the things she doesn’t.

Ready for the new book selection?!?
Divergent by Veronica Roth
After a recommendation from Tall Girl Tales on Tumblr, I decided to read it.  It’s a smilar type of story to the Hunger Game series (which I loved).
Wow.  This book is great!!!  Can’t wait to hear what y’all think.
(By the way, the author has a blog: Veronica Roth Books)
Happy Reading!!!

What a wonderful and a straight forward spell caster that has brought back joy and happiness into my life after i saw a post on how he helped a lady called Nicole Morgan; i decided to contact him for help, when i told this God sent man Dr Eboehi on how my lover left me for 2 years without calling nor texting me, When i shared this my sad experience with Dr Eboehi he said everything would be okay within 3 days i was like am i sure what this man is saying is real, So i decided to give him a try and at first i was thinking he was a scam and i taught he was like other spell casters who come online to add pain to people's life not knowing there feelings but to make money, this great man Dr Eboehi is never like that because he is for good and to make people happy with the one they love, am just so happy, Even before the 3 days i just got a call from a man who has left me for 2 years saying that he his sorry and that he wants me back to his life i was so happy, He invited me for a dinner which i met with him there and we both talked, he said he wants to prove that he would never leave me for any other lady he engaged me and also made me had access to all his account am so happy all thanks goes to this great man Dr Eboehi a man who has brought back joy to my life, friends that need help in getting their lover's back i would advice you contact Dr Eboehi via email: { [email protected] } because he is the right man to help you get your problem solved.
