Candles

Okay. So this is a post that I never in one million years expected I would be writing. You see, I used to be terrified of fire. Seriously terrified. In eighth grade, my science teacher threatened to fail me because I refused to light the bunsen burner… ever. But then I had a panic attack and I think she realized that I was seriously afraid of it, so she let me off the hook.
In high school, my amazing rowing coach knew I had a fear of fire and encouraged me to just light one match every day. I mean really, that’s how bad it was. Eventually, I was sort of okay with using one of those long lighters (flame away from my body). But I hated candles on tables even in restaurants. I would look at it and imagine the entire table engulfed in flames.
So yes.
When the hurricane hit last October, I had bought a few candles to have just in case. I used them one time and blew it out after a minute because I was convinced I would set off the smoke detector. For whatever reason, I had the desire to light one the other day. And I’m a true convert.
#OvercomingFearsOneCandleAtATime
My candles were, I think, ten dollars from a drug store because a) I never thought I’d use them and b) I was rushing to grab candles right before a hurricane.
Now I want to get a million pretty ones. One for every square inch of my apartment… or something like that. (Also, I hope other people get the Rent reference.)
I really love all of these. Fresh is one of my favorite brands for beauty products so I feel like I would love the candles. My mom keeps Votivo Red Currant candles all over the house in Florida… But I love Molton Brown hand soaps! Jo Malone makes the most amazing scents and I’m tempted to scoop up every one of the candles. But everyone and their mother seems to have Diptyque candles and I want in on the fun!
Ah! Which one to get… which one to get…
What’s your favorite brand (and scent recommendations, please!) of candles?

xoxo

The Nectarine Blossom and Honey candle from Jo Malone is seriously amazing in the dead of winter. It makes your entire apartment smell like summer and helps when you feel like it is never, ever going to stop snowing.

oh, girl… get yourself some candle warmers. they're the same as coffee warmers – they melt the wax but involve no flame whatsoever. this means you can also reuse them because the wax doesn't get burned! you can buy them at craft stores or, if you're lazy, from amazon. my favorite candles are from bath & body works and i love the signature candle at anthropologie.

Anthropologie's Boulangerie Jar in the Pumpkin Soufflé scent is simply amazing. It is pretty much a pumpkin spice latte in a candle form. It's perfect for the fall. I bought my first one last fall and of course they sold out by the time I wanted to buy another, this season I'm buying in balk. Believe me- you won't regret this purchase

I love candles. The scent and site just really helps me to relax whether I'm winding down or working. Diptyque are my favorite and I've just ordered some fall scents that I can't wait to try! I also love fresh and have been considering trying their candles as well, the hesperides or citron de vigne so let us know what you think!

I'm a big fan of Bath & Body Works candles, but I also really love Votivo's candles. They burn really well. Henry Bendel has a great selection as well!

I'm kind of obsessed with Bath & Body Works' spiced cider candle. It is the smell of autumn in a candle and it is amazing. If I wasn't a seasonal candle person, I would have it burning year-round.

I love anything that smells like fresh laundry or clean cotton. I know it doesn't sound like much, but it makes my whole apartment smell… clean.

diamond candles! once you burn the candle all the way down, there is a ring worth up to $5000! and they are made of all natural soy and have such cute packaging and great scents, like their cupcake candle which is a personal favorite. totally worth it!

Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia-hands down, the best I've ever smelled. Also, Anthropologie has this yummy cake smelling scent called Angel Food-I'm sure you can imagine how good that one smells!

My absolute favorite candle is Archipelago's Charleston scent which is a blend of hyacinth, white jasmine and tuberose- clean and pretty without being too strong of a scent. If you are looking for something strong, I just picked up a Boulangerie candle at Anthropologie yesterday that is Sweet Vanilla Cinnamon which is perfect for fall and smells like fresh baked cookies!

Ah you can't go wrong with the Capri Blue Volcano Anthropologie candle! It comes in a beautiful mercury glass jar that I just looooove. I actually have it burning right next to me! I also love Anthropologie's Whipped Cream and Pear candle.

I usually get mine from Bath and Body Works. They are cheap and allow me to switch scents with the seasons. I just peel off the ugly label and the jars look quite nice 🙂 My current favourite is Vanilla Cupcake.

I second (third?) the Diamond Candles recommendation! Their candles last foreeeeeever, and the ring is a great bonus! My favorite scent is Cuddle right now. 🙂

These are not scented candles per se- but safe and beautiful ones! http://www.glassybaby.com makes BEAUTIFUL tea light holders, if you get simple vanilla tea lights these look wonderful and aren't as much of a fire risk!

also this is strange but the tall religious candles with the paper taken off are beautiful when put on a shelf or in a row look amazing, are so cheap and feel safer to me! I also keep the paper on but to each her own! http://www.dollargeneral.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11787016&CAWELAID=1923393949&cagpspn=pla&KPID=P11787016

I know it's been said multiple times already but I'll say it again — Bath and Body Works seriously have the most amazing smelling candles, and they change with the season so you can have an ever revolving round of scents!

My best friend gave me the soy wax champagne scented candle by Rewined and I adore it! Not only the wine-inspired aroma of it but also the vintage repurposed wine bottle it is poured it. Anthropologie also offers a great selection of warm, cozy, and unique candles.

My favorite candle this time of the year is Aromatique Cinnamon Cider – it is sheer heaven. I wait until September 1st to light it but I seriously have not found an Autumn candle that compares. And for the holidays – GAP Holiday, Ralph Lauren Holiday or Aromatique Smell of the Tree!

I get all my candles at Home Goods. You can score great brands and they are all under $15. They rotate the fragrances with the seasons as well, so its a great bargain. I got a lovely lavender candle there a couple of weekends ago.

All the candles you listed are fantastic–but truly, my favorites for fall have been one from Anthropologie: Its Noble Carnation by Royal Apothic and the case is so chic. Also, I'm SUCH a fan of Bath and Body Works' "Leaves" fall candle. Instantly fills the room with fall. It's amazing. xo

Ohhh I love candles 🙂 Sadly the good ones are pricey. I've found that the Bath and Body Works ones are the best bang for your buck. The mini ones have a surprisingly strong smell and they're so little and affordable! Currently I have the Autumn scent and Heirloom Pear on rotation and can't wait for my Evergreen one in a couple months (even though I don't celebrate Christmas haha).

I actually am doing a post abour this brand this week — Lucia Soy Candles are amazing. Fabulous scents, they come already set into glass tealight containers, and are completely naturally derived (not everyone realized that certain candles contain toxic chemicals that get inhaled along with the yummy scent they have). Definitely worth checking out, and you can get them in sets with several scents so you don't have to commit!

Omg, I have the same fear…I totally know what you mean about "seeing" everything engulfed in flames!! I usually avoid fire at all costs, but I have a friend who is strangely obsessed with fire (she lights matches for fun..) so I suppose I'm getting used to it..?..

The best candles (in my opinion) are from Bath and Body Works! Right now it's all about fall scents, but they also have some fresh ones too. I am obsessed with Autumn Day and Leaves.
P.S. I totally got the RENT ref. before I even finished reading your post – it made my day!

My mom always has a candle burning at home, and most of the time, it's a Circle E Orange Patchouli candle! Seriously the best!! I really like their Bird of Paradise candles too!

Check out Francesca's! The candles smell amazing (like candy!) and are completely affordable so you can check them all out. There's also the Volcano candle brand (like at Anthropologie) but its usually about $10 less at Francesca's 🙂

I have a few great ones from B&BW and Anthro, but my FAVORITE is a cheapy Glade candle that was $3 from Target in the scent Cashmere Woods. It smells like sexy man cologne, but softer. Everyone NEEDS it. It's SO cheap but SO good!!!
