A Summer Look

I’m excited to partner with thredUP on this post today. After advice for starting a blog, my next most asked question is how to build a wardrobe on a budget, without sacrificing style or quality. I have been using thredUP for a couple of years actually. thredUP is the largest online thrift store where you can find your favorite name brand and designer pieces for up to 90% off retail. It’s one of the websites I always go to when I’m looking for a particular item of clothing from a past season.

The prices are really great and, unlike going to a thrift store, you can easily sort through your favorite brands and specific sizes or colors. Saves so much time, as well as money. A win/win as far as I’m concerned.

If you follow me on Snapchat, you might have seen my unboxing of my thredUP purchase for the post. I wasn’t sure which direction I was going to go in, so I bought a few options including two skirts. One is the J. Crew skirt featured today, and another was a Lilly skort in one of the cutest old-school patterns. Definitely can’t wait to wear that this summer as well.

J. Crew on a budget

thredUP put together a list of suggestions for refreshing your summer wardrobe. They are great basics to make getting dressed for warm summer days a breeze. I went for a polo, flirty skirt, and low-key flats. I try to keep my summer staples as fuss-free as possible, especially when it comes to packing for summer vacations.

After what seems like endless months of jeans and pants, I take full advantage of bare legs! If I’m not wearing a sundress, I love opting for cute skirts with fun prints and then keeping it simple with a white tee or polo on top. Polos are such an easy way to wear something that looks a little bit more put together without getting uncomfortable in the heat. I know some people hate it, but popping a polo collar is actually a great way to keep the sun off the back of your neck, too.

Review of thredUP

I appreciated that the items came so well packaged. They all had a cute label in addition to any brand tags (if they still had tags).

Okay, let’s break down the savings:

– Vineyard Vines Polo (new with tags!) | Retails for $62, purchased for $31.99

– J. Crew Skirt | Retails for $98, purchased for $22.99

– Mark & Graham Flat Clutch | Retails for $79, purchased for $36.99

– Jon Josef Flats | Retails for $119, purchased for $35.99

My final purchase total was $127.96, and the retail total would have been $358, so I saved $230!

Where to buy preppy clothes on a budget

I was blown away by the quality of all the items. Although they’re second-hand, they didn’t feel that way at all– including the shoes!

This is such a sweet, old school outfit! I have a ton of Polo shirts and always forget to wear them, but I love the look! I just sold a bunch of stuff to ThredUp but have never bought anything–I need to shop the site!

It seems like there’s always a piece or two from each season that I don’t buy before it sells out! I usually scour a few other sites, but never thought to check thredUP! Have you ever sold through them? I’ve used Poshmark in the past, but I’m wondering if there is an easier/quicker way.

I haven’t personally yet, but when you make an order they send you this giant bag that you can fill with old clothes and send back to them. I don’t think you get as much money as you would if you sold it yourself (and took the photos/handled shipping, etc.)… but I would imagine it’s much more convenient!

I’m in love with this outfit — so cute, comfy, and effortless!! I mean, that J. Crew skirt?! And a vineyard vine polo under $35!! I also saw the Lilly skort and love it. Already started purusing thredUP’s website with new motivation.

Hi Carly. I’ve been reading your blog for a while, and I think you’ve been successful in building your brand. However, I’m disappointed that you’ve partnered with thredUp this time. If you read online reviews, you’ll find that this company rips people off by paying peanuts for clothes that people send in and selling them for much higher. Their BBB rating is suspiciously A+ despite having 94% of reviews being negative. I don’t think this collaboration is good for your image. Just my two cents.

I think there’s a trade-off for the convenience, but it’s definitely something a seller should consider!

I personally have had great experiences finding clothes at great prices with ThredUP which is what I featured in the post ❤️

I’ve never checked into ThredUp, but I just LOVE TheRealReal! I’ve gotten so many great pieces by Tory Burch, tibi, kate spade you name it and most of them had the condition of “Pristine!”
