A Classic Fall Look

This is, without question, my favorite outfit post of the year. It has everything I love in a good outfit: comfortable, tailored, and classic pieces. It’s really as simple as it gets and I think that’s what I love about it. It’s the small details that bring it from boring to sharp.

One of my friends was asking on Instagram where you can find well-made classic clothes nowadays. It seems, and I’d agree, that every store is hopping on the trendy bandwagon. I don’t hate that most of the time, but when you need to find closet staples that fit well and look great, where do you go? I had just received the box of clothes for this post in collaboration with Talbots and promptly messaged her back: GET TO TALBOTS, ASAP.

Talbots Jeans

Talbots is celebrating their 70th Anniversary right now and launched a seven-piece collection commemorating iconic pieces from each decade. Each showcase the timelessness of the items– what worked decades ago, still works today.

I picked The White Shirt inspired by the 1940s. It’s beautiful. I have a pretty large collection of white shirts because they go with absolutely everything; a true closet staple. This one has the best detailing. Darting for a perfect fit and showstopping ruffles on the sleeves.

One reason I love a classic white shirt is that it’s for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’re 28 or 78, you can’t go wrong. Tuck one into a pencil skirt for a presentation at work or wear one casually with jeans and sandals for a casual weekend look.

I wanted to keep my outfit just as classic and timeless as the shirt. I started with a pair of jeans, which, by the way, I’m thoroughly obsessed with. The wash is just right as is the fit and pocket placement.

Tweed Ruffle Blazer

The shirt is so cute on its own, but I brought along a tweed blazer with a ruffled collar for an extra fall-y look.

Horsebit Belt

Continuing with the horsebit theme, the belt and handbag were musts.

So many memories of sitting at Talbots while my mom tried on stuff! I would never think to go there for myself, but you’ve changed my mind 🙂 Also, Carly, come to the UK! SO many classic options ‘on the high street’ as they call it here.

That bag is so cute!
Quick question: in the Maxie post this week, I loved the grey top you wore. Where is it from?

OMG I was visiting my parents and I caught myself flipping through my mom’s talbots catalogue and I was like wait what… all of this stuff is SO on point. Gone are the days where being dragged into Talbots was the worst thing.

I think that you look great in this outfit, but can’t imagine most people pulling this off. Has kind of an old lady/mom look.

I like the quasi British conservative country look (at times). I am an American and prefer clothing from Joules (the cut is longer, as I am taller…and the colour is a bit more vibrant).

Wow I absolutely love these shoes! So adorable, just love the bit loafer look. Loafers have become my favorite shoe just because they are so classy but also super comfortable. I also am really into this belt, the equestrian double buckle adds a great touch to the look!

Love this! Talbots is one of the few places where I can find well-made clothing in petite sizes – more Talbots collabs please!

I use to tease my friend because at only age 26 she always buy stuff at Talbots. But as you propose rhe question of “Where do you buy quality staples THAT FIT WELL” it has changed my mind about stepping in and trying it out. Too many places have abandoned what they do best to put out “trendy” items. I’m always searching different places for the best of jeans, white tees, leggings, loafers etc. Now I will add Talbots to my searxh list!

Have you seen the Erica bow-back pumps from Talbots? They’re super cute and look like they’d be right up your alley!

Such a cute outfit! I love the bottom part of the sleeves on that shirt and the ruffles on that jacket! How I wish I lived up north to wear these types of outfits. I would melt after two seconds in this Florida heat. #floridaproblems #alwayslivinginthe90s

It’s so funny you mention Talbots. I would say it’s known as an “old lady store” but I have a necklace my mom bought me for
my birthday from there and I always
get so many compliments on it. Adore this look! Those shoes look soooo nice! At first I thought they were backless loafers. I’ve been looking for a nice pair of leather ones! May just need to keep these
in mind. =) And you are absolutely beautiful as always!!!

I’m wondering what size you purchased in the jeans? They look great, but I’m deciding between sizes!
