Bathing Suit Shopping

know it’s February, and I know we’re still having below freezing temperatures (at least here in Connecticut). But I tend to find that February is the best time to do bathing suit shopping.

This is when inventory is at its peak! Unlike other clothes, in my experience, bathing suits tend to sell out the fastest and there isn’t as much stock available by the time it’s hot out. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. Now, I do love to check up on the sales at the end of the summer, but you never know what you’re going to get!

I thought I’d share a few of my favorites from J. Crew. I’m so happy they’ve brought these styles back because I love them so much. Plus, they’re 25% off today with the code: “48HOURS” (And by the time I’m in a place to wear them, I’m sure they’ll be sold out! So…. I recommend buying now if you want!)

J. Crew Gingham Bikini

I’ve had this gingham bikini for years. It’s one of my go-tos and I never fail to feel amazing in it. Of all my bikinis, this is the one I reach for the most. I have the underwire top (🙏🏻 cup sizes!) and these plain bikini bottoms. The gingham collection has a ton of options to choose from: loving the high waisted bottoms, this scoop bikini top, and this shoulder tie one piece.

J. Crew One Shoulder One Piece in Stripe

I actually sent Mickey Drexler an email about this one-shoulder striped suit when I first got it. I received it in the mail after being on backorder and I told him that I thought they needed to bring it back. Well, it’s come back two years in a row! I have it in the navy and red and couldn’t be happier with it. Whenever I wear it, I get a ton of compliments; it has a very retro feel while still feeling modern.

It must be selling really well because they released a solid version. If I were to get another bathing suit (“I do not need another bathing suit, I do not need another bathing suit…”), I think the solid black would top my list.

J. Crew Plunge V-Neck Bathing Suit

Okay. Guys. If you’re looking for a REALLY AMAZING one piece, get this one. It’s a classic one piece that you can reach for no matter what the occasion. As much as I love printed suits with fun twists, there’s something to be said about a simple, flattering suit. I wore this a bunch this summer around my boyfriend’s family (because really, what could be more nerve-wracking than going on vacation for the first time where you have to don a bathing suit every day?!) and it was perfect for everything from lounging to water skiing. Plus, it sits perfectly under a cover-up without any lumps or bumps.

Below is the back of it. The wide straps are everything!

J. Crew One Piece Bathing Suit J. Crew Liberty Floral

So this is last year’s print, but J. Crew brought back the same style in a new Liberty Floral. Honestly? I’m loving this year’s print even more! This is a really good option if you’re looking for something fun and a little flirty.

Other suits that piqued my interest? This adorable scoop back one piece (can’t decide which print I love more!) and this solid baby bow back one piece (when have ever been able to resist something with a bow?).

PS For J. Crew sizing, I either do a 0 Long or 2 Regular for one-pieces. (I almost always order both to see which fits better. Sometimes I need the length and sometimes I need extra room for the chest… it’s hit or miss depending on the style). For bikinis, I’m an XS on bottom and a Medium on top (on rare occasions, I have the band of the top taken in a little bit) or 32C if cup sizes are available.

PPS Looking for a coverup? Loving this tiered gingham one!

You look amazing in all of these! I love J.Crew swimwear but I always order two sizes! I’ve found that sometimes sizes aren’t the most consistent in different styles and everything I love seems to sell out so fast. It’s easiest to order a bunch and return what doesn’t work

LOVE these swimsuits! I have been looking through the swimwear on J. Crew all day long…. Needless to say I love all of them and I don’t know which one I’m going to pick! Thanks for sharing!

Carly, can you please post about how you deal with swimsuits with no padding? i.e. the one with thick straps above, the marysia line, solid & striped if you have any from there… T Y A!

I am super bummed that there are so few options for “long” in J. Crew swimsuits this year!! They only have three or four that are on the plain and simple side. Hopefully the bring out more closer to summer. Great post 🙂
