What I Have and Recommend from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

I have purchased some amazing products over the years from the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale– like my beloved riding boots which I’ve had for over a decade at this point. Access to the sale is tiered and since I don’t have a credit card, I won’t be able to shop anything until August 19 when it opens up to the public. But this year, they have a full preview available, which I think is very smart because you can look ahead to see if there’s something you want to favorite and save for later. Personally I think it cuts down on some of the craze and I’m here for that.

I say this every year, but this is a great time to stock up on staples you already love or splurge on items you want to invest in. Especially since we really don’t know what our fall is going to look like in terms of the pandemic, I think it makes even more sense.

Sunglasses // Similar Top // Jeans (mine are from J. Crew but the Madewell version appears to be nearly identical!)

MY BEST BUYS:

– Patagonia Nano Puff Hoodie: (mine doesn’t have a hood, but I SWEAR it is a magic jacket– super lightweight but magically keeps you warm and great year round. Yes, year round.)

– Fresh Soy Cleanser: You know I love it! I always, always stock up when it goes on sale.

– True & Co Bras: This wireless bra has changed my life. I purchased at the beginning of the pandemic and it’s SO GOOD.

– Ray Ban Wayfarers: I have a pretty big collection of Ray Bans, and the classic Wayfarers were my most recent acquisition at the beginning of the year. I love them.

– Natori Feathers Bra: Not going to lie, I’m not wearing “real” bras all that frequently during 2020. But some outfits need it and I reach for my favorite… the Natori Feathers Bra. It has the best fit. Slightly sexy but also secure.

– Barbour Quilted Jacket: I don’t have this exact style, but I think Barbour makes a beautiful quilted jacket and I love the color of this. (Also available in plus size!)

READ THE ROOM, Carly. How many of your readers have extra income during a pandemic to do mindless department store shopping?

Everyone is in a different position right now. For me “reading the room” is looking at my analytics and tracking what people are buying and how much they’re spending and… my audience is spending, ESPECIALLY during sales. So I wanted to highlight staples that I have and own and wear frequently that are on sale right now.

Linda-Did you also complain to Nordstrom and other stores for advertising their sales during the pandemic ? I don’t understand why you’re reading this blog if you feel this way. Yes, some people have the extra income and don’t consider it ‘mindless shopping’ to stock up on some items that are more affordable during the sale.

Perhaps Linda should read the room. She is literally complaining on a blog about preppy goods that there’s a post about preppy goods.

Linda, Carly’s picks are the most practical of the sale I’ve seen this year. In a sale so overwhelming it can be so nice to have a blogger point out the most practical picks they would personally find worth spending money on. I haven’t bought a new Shave oil from L’occitane in a year because they last so long, but it is something I use weekly and LOVE. Knowing they have a sale price in bulk will save me money! If you don’t appreciate the practicality of these suggestions or just the nature of this blog- please move along. Carly and the rest of us do not need your negativity.

I have been literally following you since the start of Instagram (love “the college prepster”). thank you for this super informative and honest post. I love reading all your blog posts on the website at the end of every week. I do appreciate your candor and honesty. It is very apparent in all that you do. So happy for you and where you are in life now (esp with Mike!)

This is the most realistic and practical Nordstrom anniversary sale picks I’ve seen for the 2020 coverage. I’m here for it! Thanks for providing recommendations that are tried and true and still being sensitive to current events! Definitely stocking up in L’Occitane.

I love your approach to the Sale. It’s very similar to mine. I always stock up on some basics (hello Kiehls lotions!) and then I treat myself to 1-2 items. I’ve got my fingered crossed that the expandable Longchamps tote and cashmere Halogen sweaters stay in stock. But you know, if they don’t, I’ll survive.

Yay! I (like many) look forward to this sale every year and I love seeing what you (and a few others) like from the sale. And really we can use all the joy we can get these days!

Also, as a big girl I would just like to say that I’ve always wanted a Barbour coat and now that they carry plus sizes I could cry. Will be snagging everything they carry in my size!!

Thanks for approaching this from a practical standpoint! You’ve always had my favorite approach to this sale (IE not letting it be the only thing you post about), and you found a great balance this year with so many people financially struggling.

Thank you for not going overboard with Nordstrom posts! I think my favorite items this year are actually pieces of jewelry (not super fine jewelry) and some basics like the pajamas and lotions.

You’re bummed? Can I suggest taking a walk, listening to some upbeat music, eating some good food… those things help me when I’m bummed.

This was obviously meant for a different website, and I’m an idiot. Please ignore this comment. Love your picks Carly and the hard work you put into your blog!
