Movies Recently

After what seemed like ages of movies I didn’t want to see, this holiday season had so many that piqued my interest! Going to the movies is one of my favorite things to do. I’ll even go alone sometimes just to sit in a dark theater and have a couple of hours to myself. Popcorn and candy a must.
Here’s what I’ve seen recently…
Joy | I was really excited to see this movie after the trailer came out. Joy is about a young woman who is seemingly stuck (maybe even trapped) in a kind of dead end life as she supports, financially and emotionally, her entire family. She takes matters into her own hands and ends up inventing “the miracle mop.”  It was even better than I expected. I laughed, I cried. I left feeling pretty inspired. If you see one movie, I’d recommend this one the most.
(My whole family went to see this on Christmas and everyone loved it!)
The Big Short | My parents wanted to go see The Big Short, I wasn’t super interested but went along for the popcorn. Wow. It’s really eye-opening and made in such an interesting way. I loved it. It follows typical, and atypical, players in the financial industry and what exactly went down during the financial crisis in 2008. That was my first semester in undergraduate business school and it really shaped how the curriculum changed throughout the four years I was in school. It’s kind of scary when you watch this and think, uhhhh, this could/will happen again.

Daddy’s Home | Slapstick comedy has grown on me over the years and Daddy’s Home didn’t disappoint. Gar and I went on New Year’s Eve and it was hilarious. I loved ringing in the new year with a whole lot of laughs. Will Ferrell is amazing as the stepdad. Dorky and lovable. It’s one of those movies I could watch over and over.

My friend and I saw the last installment of the Hunger Games. Now, I devoured the books and have really enjoyed all the movies, but this one was too intense and too dark. I felt like I couldn’t breathe the whole time… and just kept whispering to my friend, “I hate this.” Ha, I left the theater so tensed up!

I still want to see Sisters, Concussion, and Brooklyn… might have to wait for those to be available to download though!

What movies have you watched lately? Any that can’t be missed?
xoxo

I had never seen any of the Star Wars movies, but my boyfriend really wanted to go see it so I bought us tickets. It was AMAZING. Absolutely loved it, and was so surprised that I did!

I saw Joy and The Big Short over the holiday break. I was expecting to love The Big Short (and loved it!) but didn't know what I would think of Joy despite being a pretty fervent David O. Russell fan. I was so pleasantly surprised! Gorgeous movie and so inspiring.

I felt the same way when I was watching the last Hunger Games movie as well. I knew it wasn't going to be a lighthearted movie by any means, but it was so overwhelmingly dark. I think I jumped out of my seat several times!

I absolutely loved the new Star Wars movie! I was so afraid Disney would mess it up somehow, but I left the theater very impressed.

I really want to see Joy, Brooklyn, and Sisters! I'll be seeing the new Star Wars with my husband. I had never seen any of them before, but my husband finally convinced me to watch all of them with him. We are finishing the last half this week, then seeing the new movie so I know what's going on! I've been enjoying the series so far – I don't think I'll ever be on the level of some of the BIG fans, but it's fun to be a part of all that excitement!

You NEED to see Spotlight! It is absolutely phenomenal and I am yet to see a negative review on it. Although the topic is a little dark, it is such a must see. Definitely a thought-provoking movie!

Ah! I will put Joy on my list 🙂 I watched Spy this holiday with my family which was hilarious even if it was a little crass 😛 I also watched Inside Out for the first time which is definitely a must see – even for adults.

I really want to see JOY too!

I recently saw, though it's been out for awhile now, Wish I Was Here with Zach Braff and Kate Hudson. Really enjoyed it and am considering getting a pink wig!
