Cooking Class

I’ve been dying to take a cooking class forever. Now that I’m cooking a lot at home– and loving it– my desire to attend one was even higher! Garrett was working on Valentine’s Day night and I was trying to think of something fun and creative to do. A cooking class had been on our want-to-do list for a while and Sur La Table was offering a special Valentine’s Day class. I jumped at the chance.
It ended up being such a fun afternoon and I would totally do it again.
I thought it would be more of an instructional class, but while I learned a little it was more the experience. I felt like I was on a Cooking Channel show. The whole class was filled with couples and we each took care of separate tasks. Some couples made the salad dressing, some whipped up the dessert, some chopped the salad (that would be Garrett and me!). Then we all kind of took turns putting everything together. The class ended with the whole group sitting down to enjoy the meal!
We had such a great chef. Very funny and highly entertaining. He’s also French and his accent made the whole thing feel so much more authentic. Saying “Yes Chef” and “Thank you Chef” really added to the cooking show feeling too! Ha!
Somehow I got the job of mixing together three pounds of spaghetti. Three pounds of pasta is quite a lot of pasta to get all mixed up.
Adding some hazelnut whipped cream to our chocolate desserts!
The dishes were: Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Porcini Crusted Beef Tenderloin with Chianti Reduction, Shaved Fennel and Pear Salad, Espresso Chocolate Budino
Everything was delicious!
Apparently you can host private events here too. I think I next time I’d put together a class for a bunch of my girlfriends or get a handful of our couple friends together for one. It would be a really fun thing to do for team bonding with coworkers, a medium sized family get together over the holidays, a non-wild bachelorette party, and even a fun substitute for a birthday party.

PS They have macaron making classes… Who wants to go with me?!?!

PPS I had a few questions about my shirt + glasses after Snapchatting the class this weekend. Shirt is J. Crew and this is the pair of glasses.

Count me in for the macaron making class!

I gifted my dad a class for his 50th birthday last fall and we had such a blast! The knife skills class also looks amazing.

This looks like so much fun! I've always wanted to do one of these classes with my boy friend. Maybe I can find one in our area to go to for next Valentine's Day!

I've been meaning to go to a place near my apartment, Cook, to take a class! I took a sushi making class in high school and still remember how fun it was! Looks like a great place for a casual, unique date night! And that meal looks so yummy!
