How to Tie Bean Boots

I’ve seen the “eastland knot” before but had never tried it myself. I kept the laces ever since and thought I’d share how to do it. Although it looks complicated, it’s surprisingly simple. And it’s the best knot for Bean Boots too. I used to tie mine around the boot since they were long and tended to get loose. With the eastland knot, the laces stay put.
Knowing how well the knot stayed, I also did it on for the laces on my slippers. And I think I know what to do with all my boat shoes this summer too!
I have the 6″ Bean Boots in the brown (above) and LL Bean recently sent me the cutest navy/green 8″ boots (below).
I laced the boots all the way up to the top just so it would be easier to see what I was doing, but I think the knot looks best on 8″ boots if you leave a few holes unlaced.
The first step is to create a little loop. Honestly, this is the trickiest part! A loop, hard? Yep. This could take a few tries because the loop has to be the right size. If it’s too small, you won’t be able to wrap it all the way and if it’s too big, you won’t get a tight enough knot.
Once you have the loop, start wrapping the laces around the loop.
And then keep wrapping and wrapping until you get to the end of the lace and you have only a tiny loop left.
Then when you have that little loop, you take the tail end of the lace and thread it through the hole. (Sometimes it takes a little patience to get the end through.) And pull tight.
You can adjust the knot by scrunching it from the top! The end result is quite beautiful, right?

I love the look of this. I always find that my boots like this are too hard to tie in a bow because the strings are too short. This is the perfect solution!

Had no idea what it was called, but years ago when I was a kid in 4-H we did this with our saddle strings so they wouldn't flop around while we were loping on our horses.

Thank you so much for this post. I went to the store and they did it but it was tight so I had to re-do it and I remembered this post and immediately searched for it.?

Do you like the 6″ or 8″ better? I got the 6″ for Christmas, but I can’t decide if I want to keep them or exchange them for the 8″! I go to school in Wisconsin.
