hello 2017

I’m so looking forward to a fresh start this year! I’m still in Florida with my family for a few more days so I’m not quite getting back into a regular routine just yet. (Feels like a bonus vacation to tell you the truth.)

Every year I like to come up with a few goals (I don’t love the whole “resolutions” bit) and maybe one or two things I want to focus on this year. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, things were a little rocky in 2016. As we enter the new year, I’m feeling disoriented. I do have a few goals that I know I want to work on (blog related and personal), but still don’t feel like I’m in the best mindset to come up with a “focus” for 2017.

And as I thought about that, I realized that that may be just what I need to focus on. That is, being okay with the unknown, feeling confident even when things aren’t totally clear, and remaining positive throughout it all.

I know in my heart that everything is going to be great in the end (see, I’m already trying) and it’s just a matter of having trust. And a healthy dose of positivity. You really can never have too much of that!

So that’s where I’m at on this first day of twenty seventeen.

Carly, you don’t have to have anything figured out today or tomorrow or next week. Take it one day at a time. We are all rooting for you.

Happy new year Carly ! It’s perfectly normal to need time to figure things out, sometimes that’s all it takes for the picture to get clearer. Fresh starts and new beginnings are always exciting though, I know you’ll make the most of it. Wishing you the best !

Hey Carly, I wish you all the best for 2017! As I am also a very “goal oriented” person, it took me a while to figure out that actually reaching goals is never the problem for me – rather it is to trust the process called life and to let go of “interfering” with the flow of things. Of course I still struggle with this. But I believe in “Everything will be okay in the end. If it’s not okay, it’s not the end!”

If you are in need of an escape, any of the Elin Hilderbrand books about Nantucket do the trick! My favorites are The Rumor, Silver Girl, and the Winter Street series. So sorry you are going through this transition, but everything happens for a reason.

This is the perfect time to cut out whatever weighs you down and focus on what makes you happy! Cheers to fresh starts in a great new year!

I know the feeling. I love setting goals. Last year (2016), I came into January empty-handed and it was pretty upsetting to me because I like having a direction. It wasn’t until Feb/March that I landed on my yearly goals and they ended up being much better than anything I could’ve thought of in January! Keep pluggin’ away. It’s all in good time.

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from Grey’s Anatomy: ” Sometimes the future changes quickly and completely, and we’re left with only the choice of what to do next. We can choose to be afraid of it, to stand there trembling not moving, assuming the worst that can happen or we step forward into the unknown and assume it will be brilliant.”

This year I made a note on my phone for my 2017 wishes. Some of them were more resolution or goal oriented and some of them were just fun things that am wishing for for the new year. This is the first time I have written my wishes down and I hope to keep adding to them and tweaking them throughout the year. Cheers to you for 2017!

Hi Carly,

This is going to sound so weird, but I can’t stop thinking about you! Since I read your post the other day about your 2016 ending in heartbreak, I’ve been sending nothing but good vibes your way. Unfortunately I suffered from a broken heart several years ago and can fully attest to it feeling like a diagnosable illness. “Broken Heart Syndrome” or something. While I know nothing about what happened, and don’t need to, I just wanted to say that from one woman to another, things will get better (taking lots of bubble baths and crying unapologetically can help, too).

Thank you for inspiring so many of us gals that have been reading for years and cheers to your 2017 being full of “Health and Happiness.” You are GREAT!

Sincerely,

Erin

Haha I almost always feel disoriented coming into the new year 😛 It’s amazing how much your perspective changes when you finally realise you’re happy where you are, whether there’s lots of work to be done or there isn’t (although more often than not there is ;)).
