I love Thanksgiving dinner. Sure, the turkey is great, but I’m there for the sides. We usually do the same ones every year and then have the best leftovers for the next few days. I think everyone in my family has a different favorite dish that we go back for seconds, or thirds… but we do love them all!
7 of the Best Thanksgiving Sides
Guest post by Louisa from Living Lou
This year I was responsible for bringing desserts to Thanksgiving, (I made my pumpkin pecan pies), but I found that most people I know were asked to bring a side dish. This makes sense because, at this point, we’re not usually hosting Thanksgiving ourselves but attending those of our family and significant other.
Pro-Tip: A side dish is usually a safe bet if you’re not sure what to bring this year.
Here are my favorite Thanksgiving side dishes everyone is guaranteed to love.
I can’t be the only person who doesn’t like the sickly sweet sweet potato casserole? I give sweet potatoes a savory twist with buttermilk and blue cheese. Everyone goes crazy for these.
2. The best Brussels sprouts with bacon and onion
I’m crazy about Brussels sprouts and this new recipe is a combination of Brussels sprouts tossed with bacon, onions and drizzled with maple syrup and fresh sage. Talk about heaven.
Do you consider stuffing a side dish? If you do, don’t think twice about making my famous sourdough stuffing–this has become a favorite recipe for my group of friends! (And for my vegetarian friends, I have a small-batch vegetarian stuffing as well).
This is a salad that never fails! If you’ve been tasked by the famous “Oh, I’m not sure, why don’t you just bring a salad?” this is the recipe for you.
Delicata squash is so naturally beautiful that just bringing a platter of this vibrant squash to the table is impressive! This recipe is so simple and quick as well.
I know Thanksgiving is all about mashed potatoes, but I can’t help but recommend these smashed potatoes for something a little different. These are life-changing.
This is one of my earliest recipes and it remains a favorite! It’s basically a simple green bean salad.
