I had to doublecheck my calendar twice to make sure it was actually time for Friday’s post. It’s been kind of a crazy week since my last On My Radar. We went out to a fancy dinner last Thursday, but I ended up having a pretty bad allergic reaction. (Even though I told them twice I was allergic to oysters………….. something in the tasting menu definitely must have had oysters or an oyster sauce.) It wasn’t pretty. We had made plans to go down the shore the next day though and I didn’t want to get in the way of it, so I rallied the best that I could.
I’m so glad we did make the trip because it SNOWED. I have never seen the beach in the snow and it was honestly one of the craziest things I’ve ever witnessed. The ocean waves were breaking on the snow and it just felt like we were on a different planet. Freezing, but very cool.
The rest of my week was sort of typical (work, workouts, etc.), but I did have a minor (but also kind of major) issue pop up. I had to switch managers totally unexpectedly. Change can be hard and I had no idea how the switch was going to go. I went into Monday feeling on edge about the ~unknown~. I was expecting the worst and hoping for the best. And I have to say, it was such a relief. All things considered, I think the outcome is the best possible one. It created a little bit more work to get everyone caught up and on the same page, but so far, so good.
Here’s what’s been on my radar this week:
ONE // Katelyn Ohashi’s Perfect 10
WOW. Just wow. Katelyn Ohashi’s recent floor routine earned her a PERFECT 10 score. And people are saying that 10 isn’t even high enough. Beyond the technical skills and sheer strength, Katelyn is downright beaming through the entire routine. Even if you have no knowledge about gymnastics, there is no question that she is having a blast as she sticks every single part. (I actually featured Katelyn’s gymnastics journey last summer and it’s worth revisiting if you’re unfamiliar with her story! Makes this routine that much more meaningful!)
TWO // LT Sweet Treats
One of my friends from high school currently lives in Chicago and started a baking business. The cakes she decorates are insane. If you’re in the Chicago area, look into her work! The gold birthday cake is a showstopper.
THREE // Gorgeous Scarf
Tuckernuck is releasing a new style of the oversized, under $50 scarf that was a must have last year. I’m obsessed with the new colorway.
FOUR // Camera Covers
Currently, I have a little piece of paper + tape covering my laptop’s camera. (I don’t think anyone is hacking my computer, but just in case…) It fell off the other day and I figured I should look for a better solution. I just ordered these sliding covers and I’m excited to see how they do on my Macbook!
FIVE // X-Ability
This is an extra heartwarming story of a mom who designed a special coat for her daughter. The bodycoats are designed for children and adults in wheelchairs. She invented the coat when her daughter was having to miss out on recess and found a solution that so many people can benefit from. I also love the name– the logo is disability with the “dis” xed out to focus on the ability.
Snowing at the beach sounds surreal! She’s amazing. I went back to watch the short video about her story, and I’m so happy that she’s found happiness in the sport again. I could totally see that happiness from her recent floor routine! Oh my gosh, I ordered the exact same camera covers a few weeks ago and I’m obsessed! I had freaked myself out about my camera on my laptop after watching some Netflix show last month and couldn’t resist hahaha!

My internet safety (Kaspersky) must have changed how it keeps track of people trying to access my camera. I get warned that it was blocked several times a day now. Creepy.

Carly – thank you so much for sharing the story about the adaptive coat. I’ve really appreciated over the years that you’ve shared a number of disability related stories in your “On My Radar” posts, without ever making them condescending or infantilizingr towards people with disabilities. As a wheelchair user myself, I notice every time and it means a lot!
That gymnast was amazing! I really loved seeing how happy her teammates were as they watched her routine 🙂
