Honeymoon

Couldn’t have a wedding week on the blog without talking about our honeymoon! Mike and I wanted to do a little honeymoon, within the constraints of the pandemic. I had gone to The Wauwinet in 2019 with my friend and I knew it was an ideal honeymoon spot, pandemic or not honestly.

Mike and I drove to New Bedford and took the ferry over to Nantucket. (The ferry was practically empty and super easy to socially distance to an extreme and masks were strictly enforced.) I will be super transparent and say that when we got off the ferry, on Labor Day, it was so crowded that I considered booking a return ferry right away. I was very nervous about the crowds. That said, once we got to The Wauwinet, which is located very remotely on the point of the island, it was much, much less crowded. We also booked a suite with a private deck and did room service for nearly every meal. We went into town early a couple of times later in the week to get sandwiches picnics and it was decidedly less crowded but still wasn’t eager to hang around too much.

It was a completely different kind of trip to Nantucket, but Mike and I both agreed that it was absolutely PERFECT. Both of us have been to Nantucket so many times that we didn’t feel this “need” to explore or go anywhere. We’ve been there before and we know we’ll be able to return again. It was a week of rest and relaxation. Honestly the nicest part was just getting to spend one on one time together– the week leading up to our wedding was filled with work and then hosting my family in our house and followed by various wedding activities. We felt like we hadn’t had a ton of private time alone… so it was really nice to leave the chaos of everything behind and just get away and be together.

We logged many, many hours on the lounge chairs on the lawn. (And ate many, many orders of French fries.)

We spent almost all day, every day out on the lawn. The Wauwinet has access to the Harbor and the Atlantic (because of where it sits on the point of the island) so you can really maximize your day outside without ever having to leave the resort. It’s glorious.

Foggy days on Nantucket are my favorite… my hair hates it but my heart loves it, hehe.

Our favorite part was ordering lunches and dinners out to the lawn. One night we just kept ordering little bites here and there until the sun had fully set and we were enveloped by darkness . It was so relaxing and kind of a happy medium between getting to “go out” without having to deal with reservations or restaurants–during–a–pandemic anxiety. (Maybe that’s just me– yikes.)

But if you do end up the Wauwinet, get the ice cream and cookie trios for dessert. So. Good.

The only place we ate out was Cisco Brewery. They deserve a gold medal for how safe they’re being right now. Honestly. When you walk in they take down your information for contact tracing if someone ends up testing positive. It’s first come first serve and every party (up to six people) gets their own table and masks are strictly enforced when not at your table. One person can go up to get food and then they have waiters bring the drinks to your table versus standing in line like it used to be. I…. kind of prefer the new setup. It was great 🥰

This is the exact kind of mini moon we had (and what I wish we could have had for our anniversary this year). Love that you were able to just relax and enjoy being newlyweds!

Carly, congratulations!!
This looks like a beautiful honeymoon. Would you mind sharing how the sizing on that Doen dress runs? I can’t make up my mind about what size to get. Thank you!

I thought it ran true to size. It’s forgiving because of the tie in the back (you an adjust the waist). It is kind of weird to get into because there are no zippers, but once it’s on it fits great!

My own “corona wedding” is in two weeks… the past few posts have definitely given me some extra ideas and eased my mind a bit that things will go well. Thank you! And of course, congrats!! 😍

Such a stunning honeymoon! So glad you enjoyed! Random question but did you guys take a car to the island? What is getting around like there?

We didn’t bring a car and just used the hotel’s shuttle (plexiglass + sanitized + empty ha)

We also did a mini-moon after our wedding and looking at your pictures makes me so emotional and truly nostalgic for that special alone time right after the wedding <3

You two look so happy! What a wonderful getaway. I’m definitely going to put that spot on my go-to destination list once the pandemic is over. And can I just say that Doen dress was made for you! Absolutely beautiful (you and the dress).

Just a quick note to say your wedding posts this week have made me so happy. Your own excitement and happiness has shown through every one of them. Congratulations again!

What a lovely trip! I so appreciate how open and honest you are with how much social distancing you’ve been doing and how much safety is your priority. I’ve seen a few bloggers who visited Nantucket recently and… their posts made it look like any other summer?! It did not instill a lot of confidence in me for our country’s well being. Yours, on the other hand, is celebratory while maintaining safety. Thank you, congratulations, and I hope the week was the wonderful start to a lovely life together!

I’m so happy for you both and honestly, to me this looks better than a big splashy honeymoon regardless. So peaceful.

You can post wedding content forever! (Thrown in with some JCrew and Tuckernuck posts 😆). Random Nantucket question, how “fast” is the fast ferry? Trying to plan a trip (post Covid) and we’ve got a bunch of people who HATE flying and one who isn’t thrilled with the ferry. Eeks!

We went from New Bedford which isn’t as fast as the ones from the cape. But the fast ferries there are usually about an hour!

Congratulations Carly! Your wedding and honeymoon are perfection! If I could do it all over again, I would pull up your posts and do exactly what you did – pandemic or not! Wishing you and the new hubby a lifetime of nothing but good!

We did something similar for our 5 year anniversary in St. Helena CA. Our hotel had a hot tub on the private deck and because of the smoke from fires the town and hotel felt deserted so it was easy to distance. Wineries were super strict and everything outdoors but we spent most the time at the hotel. So nice to reconnect. Congrats again!

French fries, quiet and relaxing at the beach?

Sounds like a perfect honeymoon to me! I am very happy for you!

I LOVED this post! I kind of “grew up” alongside you reading this blog pretty much since the beginning and was so excited about your wedding and engagement. My husband and I got married in January but our honeymoon plans got cancelled by Covid. This post gives me so much inspiration and I loved thinking about Nantucket as a potential honeymoon spot when things return to a little more normal.
