September @ a Glance

After a jam-packed summer, I am looking forward to settling back into a serious routine. First and foremost, I need to kick my butt into gear in the gym again. I definitely got a little lazy towards the end of the summer and I can, quite literally, feel it.

September is also the month that kicks off my busy season for work, which I’m already itching for. I always have to remind myself that summers are slow (every.single.year) and to relish it before the crazy fall/winter.

Some fun things I have to look forward to this month:

September

Even though Labor Day is the unofficial last day of summer, I have a feeling we’ll be still enjoying the beach for weekends to come. We’re going down the shore this weekend and then we’ll be back in a couple of weeks for a wedding. I’m going to an afternoon tea with Katherine McGee (author of American Royals!) that my friend Grace is co-hosting and then I’m going to the premiere of the Downton Abbey movie with Meghan. I don’t have official plans for apple picking, but Wightman’s Farm is in the next town over and offers PYO apples– and I’d love to make a cobbler with my bounty!

PERSONAL GOAL: Workout 4x a week! I’m going to be starting a new round of BBG, which will keep me busy three times a week and I want to push myself to try some new classes at the YMCA in between those workouts. I joined the same week we moved, but with my summer travel schedule, I haven’t been able to commit to finding classes that suit my preferences.

THIS MONTH: September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. I make automatic monthly donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, but will be making a larger donation for September.

If your YMCA has LesMills classes, I HIGHLY recommend them! I’ve been taking BodyPump and BodyCombat (the names sound intense but they’re so much fun and such a great workout!)

YES, the Les Mills classes are the absolute best! I’ve been doing Pump and Combat for almost 5 years and keep going back for the crazy music and fun community. Oh, and the results! Can’t beat that!

Making a calendar for the month is such a simple idea, but I can’t believe what a great one it is!! I cherish fall and wait for it all year long, yet somehow with the busyness of it, it seems to fly by before I know it. Making a calendar to remind myself that I want to go applepicking, or want to go on a coffee date with a friend, is such a great way to take advantage of the season. Move aside, work calendar… Fall calendar is coming through!!

Love this new series, Carly! I’m so excited to see what type of posts end up in Maxie’s and Lou’s former slots…you also reminded me to add the Downton premiere to my calendar!

Since my birthday is August 31st and coincides with the new school year, I have always felt like September is my “new years.” Even though I’m long out of school, I love setting up new goals and charting out how I’d like to see my year go. Now I am hitting the reset button for my small business and wading in deep into the work I have ahead of me. I’m so excited!
