On My Radar

We’re having the best time in Ireland. I knew it would be a memorable trip, but it’s still even better than I expected. I already have a long list of places we didn’t have time for and places I wanted to return to again. Hopefully soon; I don’t know how long I’ll be able to wait before returning!
Here’s what’s been on my radar:
Do you ever have one of those products where you wonder how you went so long without it once you finally get it? That’s how I’m feeling about the Longchamp backpack. I wanted a simple bag to carry around Ireland and thought a small backpack would be the best option. Naturally I waited until the last minute and didn’t have time to order one online. I popped into the Longchamp store and splurged on the backpack. I have not stopped carrying it!!! Perfect hands-free alternative to a handbag!
Omg, this may just be the best America’s Got Talent audition of all time. Grace VanderWaal is only 12 years old but Simon Cowell is predicting that she’s the next Taylor Swift. And seriously? Her voice???? She’s going to be bigger than Taylor Swift. I had goosebumps the entire time!

I love Snapchat! I love sharing little bits of life in short videos and quick photos, but it’s also been fun to watch it grow as a business. It’s hard to believe that a few years ago it was known for less savory reasons and now it’s “worth” more than a billion dollars. Their monetization has been the most interesting to follow because I think they’ve figured it out in a way smoother way than any other social app has been able to do. Get everyone on board with fun filters and then slowly introduce awesome sponsored ones where the users are disseminating the ads to their own followers? Brilliance.

FOUR // Farmgirl Flowers

I’ve had so many reasons to send fresh flowers to friends and family lately. One of my friends just had the most adorable little girl and I had to send her a pink bouquet to celebrate. I’m obsessed with Farmgirl Flowers (the Instagram account alone is swoon-worthy); the peony bouquets are STUNNING and a huge hit! Highly recommend!

FIVE // Ó’Máille– The Original House of Style

When we came to Ireland, we knew we had to get an authentic Aran sweater. There are a ton of stores in just about every town selling sweaters, but we were looking for the real deal. After a bunch of researching, we decided to swing by Ó’Máille’s in Galway. It was amazing!! The four of each found a hand-knitted sweater that we will all cherish for years and years to come. My favorite part was that each sweater came with a tag with the name of the woman who knitted it. Each knitter has a little bit of a unique style so it’s like every sweater tells its own story. If you can’t get out to the store, they actually accept orders online!

Anything fun on your radar this week?

I'd love to order a sweater! Can you let us know what size you bought? I was just in England, and while in the US I'm normally a 2 in tops I was a 6 there. Wonder if Ireland is similar? Awesome Post!

I love that photo of you! So Ireland!

I love my Longchamp backpack too. I don't use it nearly as much as I should, but it's definitely the perfect day trip bag when I don't feel like lugging around a purse on one shoulder. I'm so glad you love yours too!!

Love seeing all your pictures from Ireland, it has been on my to-go places for a while and reading about all the great sights you've been to, makes me more eager to go. Super cute stripe dress by the way. I'm going to a Jazz Age Lawn party in Governor's Island in New York this weekend and brunch on Sunday. Have a wonderful weekend.

Love this pic!
Also, I have been thinking (well, more deciding) whether or not to get another Long Champ tote, or the backpack!

I was reading a post like this on some other blog and they also shared Grace VanderWaal, so I've been listening to all the videos on her YouTube channel 😛 I'm absolutely taken by her! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

Your pictures are amazing! Are you going to share your itinerary from your trip? especially your hotel choices along the way and where you began your journey? that would be a great post. curious about the car rental.

How much did the Aran sweaters run? I'm studying abroad in London this fall and would love to swing by Ireland and pick up a sweater, but I'm sure being hand knit it'll cost a pretty penny, so I'd like to start budgeting now. Thanks!

On My Radar

This week was a little bit tenser than usual. There isn’t really any external stressors, it’s all coming internally! I have to say, it’s the least pleasant kind of stress. The little voice inside my head can be quite, quite mean.
Not to say that the week wasn’t without its highs! (Plus, if I’ve learned anything in my 25 years of life, it’s that pizza works wonders… and a touch of Ben and Jerry’s Milk and Cookies ice cream.)
Monday was the best day weather-wise. I spent my lunch time outside with Teddy and Garrett out on the stoop. It was a bit chilly, but nice enough to pretend like it was legitimately spring outside. (Yep, still wearing my favorite sneaks!)
Yesterday I met with Meredith, the brains behind Minnie and Emma. We had met at the Plaza’s Palm Court (extra fitting for the new line of palm print iPhone cases!) for afternoon tea. How stinking cute is the Eloise tea desserts? Cotton candy?! I die! I think I need to go back to the Plaza once a week now…
Now what’s on my radar for the week:
I was pretty young when the Super Toy Run contest went on and we weren’t exactly allowed to watch a lot of Nickelodeon, but I absolutely remember seeing the commercials for this thing on TV. What kid wouldn’t want to run rampant through a toy store and get to keep everything she wanted??? This article is equal parts entertaining, fascinating, and 1990s. Love it.

TWO // HBO Now

I’ve never been in a household where we had HBO. The closest I get is when I’m in a hotel and they happen to have a couple of the movie channels. HBO just came out with a digital subscription service… and the first month is free. Not really the best news if you need to be productive, but I have to admit that it’s pretty great. (Garrett and I started watching The Jinx and we. are. hooked.)

THREE // Air Canada Flight Finds Stranded Australian Yacht

In a world where it often feels like there isn’t enough good news to go around… this was a good piece of news. A simple story, but one that could have ended in a really different way.

FOUR // Strong Is the New Pretty Photo Series

“Whoever they were, however they were, was worthy of an image. Whatever they were was good enough.” I can’t get over how amazing and beautiful these photos are.

FIVE // Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Analysis

Dying. Dy. Ing. My mom and I have a slight addiction to Reese’s peanut butter eggs. Only the eggs. I will be okay with a heart. But no pumpkins. No pieces. No cups. Who knew there was a different ratio for each kind?

Anything fun on your radar from the week?

I'm loving the photo series! I've been feeling under the weather lately due to catching a cold last weekend. On Tuesday I just couldn't do anything, missed a day of classes, and slept until 4:30PM. After that I felt much better for the rest of the week. I found time to do some independent reading and catch up on reading blog posts. Hopefully I can continue doing that even after I recover! I hope you find a way to relieve your stress like I sort of have 🙂 My two methods of recovery are either 1) talking it out with a friend to put it in perspective, or 2) just taking a break from life for a day, which is what I opted for this time around. Good luck! Have an awesome weekend! -Audrey | Brunch at Audrey's

The photo series was amazing! Also, I would definitely try the mini Reese Cups that come in the bag – unbelievably way better than all the other kinds!! I loved that article though because I do notice a difference between all the different ones.

HBO series are pretty addictive, as may never hear from you again! As a big Disney fan, I'm loving the just released photos from Lauren Conrad's new collection for Kohl's.

Your dog is so freaking cute I can't get over it! Very interesting to hear about the peanut butter cups…no wonder they all taste different! I also have my favorites – I like the eggs as well and the hearts. 🙂

On My Radar

I shared these photos on my Instagram already, but I couldn’t help but share them here as well! I love the little pieces of fall around the city. While I would love to go actual pumpkin picking at a real farm, I kind of think it’s hilarious and cute how the pumpkins are displayed on the sidewalks. Just the perfect touches of autumn everywhere!

Now… onto what was on my radar this week:

ONE // Martha Stewart Shriek or Chic

I was invited to a screening of a video series Martha Stewart did for Halloween with AOL. There are six mini-episodes and you can watch them online. We got to watch all of them… and I have to say, I was impressed. They fit a lot into a short series. It’s set up a bit like Project Runway where the contestants were to create a costume for Martha Stewart and she was the judge! The contestants were all so great and their final products were unreal. (I’m interviewing the winner this month and can’t wait to share more about her and her talents with everyone!)

TWO // Wisdom Teeth + Beyonce

Let me preface this video with a warning: if you don’t like blood, listen… don’t watch. I don’t mind blood really, but I won’t lie, I gagged during parts of this. I HATE anything having to do with teeth. I’ve had one too many trips to the oral surgeon in my lifetime… Torture in my opinion. However, this video is hilarious. It has to be the 2014 version of David After Dentist. It’s long, but the poor kid is really quite funny.

THREE // Dubs

Okay, I’m the first one to admit (confess?) to being super sensitive to sound. I have been my whole life. I left my first trip to the movies when I was a kid because it was “too loud” and I absolutely lived with noise canceling headphones and ear plugs throughout college. A friend of mine recommended Dubs to me… they sent me a pair and they’re amazing! Better than ear plugs because it doesn’t block out sound so much as filter it. They fit more like ear buds than plugs and don’t look dorky! If you’re interested in the technology, here’s how they work. I’ve been wearing my pair when I’m underground on the subway; those screeching breaks are horrible.

FOUR // You’re the One That I Want

I heard another cover of this song this weekend…. I can’t remember the guy’s name, but the minute I find it, I’ll let you know! In the meantime, I found this on Youtube and I just love it. It’s a song everyone knows, but the feel is a complete 180º. Obsessed.

FIVE // Cryptoquote Puzzle

My mom has decided that doing puzzles will help her brain. While on the phone with her one afternoon, she was sharing that she got stuck on it. We then spent an hour decoding it. (Aka I quit and looked up the answer online and gave her hints.) The next day, we were determined to figure it out… and did it!!! We felt like our brains were smarter! ha! Now, I have a feeling we’re going to be doing these puzzles every afternoon together. (I wish I could record our conversations, hilarious.) I call her when I have 30 minutes, yesterday it was the perfect break for me. And we get to it! Give it a try today. (It’s in the newspaper, but I’ve been looking it up here.)

Omg, I totally just watched that whole youtube video, and I am someone who never watches videos, let alone ones that are over 5 minutes! It was hilarious. I laughed my butt off when he asked where his heart was. But it did make me nervous for my impending wisdom teeth removal!!!!! 🙂

Love the cover for "You're the One that I Want". Did you see Ed Sheeran's new music video "Thinking Out Loud"? Not really a huge Ed Sheeran fan but the song has been on repeat and I love the ballroom dancing he does!

Nothing wrong with being more sensitive to sound! "Sensory issues" are something I address frequently as an occupational therapist, and even though some people have more extreme adverse reactions than others to sensory input, it's very typical for most people to have a slight increased/decreased reaction to one of their senses. Good for you for being proactive about it and figuring out what works for you! Those Dubs look neat. I definitely want to look into them!

Love this post. I tried to solve the cryptoquote, but I couldn't. When I started to look for the answer I couldn't find that one either!!! Please help me out and tell me the answer. It is so frustrating not knowing it 🙂
